Boat builder websites that sell the hull before the sea trial

Flood Tide Digital designs and builds websites for boat builders: skiffs, bay boats, drift boats and sport fishing boats. We build model pages with real specs, build your boat forms, and dealer and direct inquiry paths. Pricing is starting at $4,000, and most builds go from kickoff to launch in about 4 to 6 weeks.

The job

What a boat builder's website actually has to do

A boat is the most researched purchase most of your buyers will make outside of a house. By the time someone calls the shop or walks up to your booth at a show, they have spent weeks on your site, your competitors' sites, forums and YouTube. Most of the decision gets made before you ever talk to them.

So the site has three jobs, and looking good is not one of them on its own:

  1. 01

Show the lineup clearly. A buyer should be able to see every model, what each one is for, and how they compare, in one scroll.

  2. 02

Make the full case for each boat. Specs, layouts, options, and real photos and video of the boat running and fishing.

  3. 03

Turn interest into a real conversation. A quote request, a sea trial, or a build your boat form that sends you a configuration you can actually price.

I restore and run my own skiff, and we have built sites for skiff, bay boat, sport fishing and drift boat builders. The builders whose sites sell are not the ones with the flashiest homepage. They are the ones who give a serious buyer everything needed to justify the purchase, then make the next step easy.

Model pages

Model pages do the heavy lifting

Every model needs its own page, and that page has to make the full case. Here is what we put on every one:

On Islamorada Boatworks the whole site is organized around the lineup, and each model gets room to make its case. Stuart Boatworks uses model by model breakdowns built for buyers comparing builders.

  • What it is built for. Where it runs, what it fishes, who it is for. "Poles in 8 inches, runs offshore on a calm day" tells a buyer more than three paragraphs of adjectives.
  • Real specs, laid out to compare. Length, beam, draft, dry weight, deadrise, fuel capacity, max horsepower, people capacity. Serious buyers will compare you against other builders. Let them do it on your site.
  • Layout, standard features and options. What comes on the boat, what is an upgrade, and how each choice changes it.
  • Real photography and video. On the water, running, fishing, with people aboard. Bow entry, deck layout, console, rigging: the angles buyers actually ask about.
  • One clear next step. Quote, sea trial, or build your boat, on every model page.

Pricing signal

Give buyers a pricing signal

Most builders hate publishing prices, and for semi custom and custom boats a single number does not make sense. But a buyer with no idea of the range will either assume you are out of reach or spend your time on a call that was never going to close.

You do not need a full price list. A "starting at" price per model, or a typical range for a common build, qualifies the lead before it reaches you. The people who leave over it were never going to buy. The ones who stay are serious.

Build forms

Build forms and lead routing

A build your boat form is one of the best lead tools a builder can have. It lets someone spend real time with the boat, pick hull color, power and options, and send you a configuration you can quote. That is a far warmer lead than "contact us."

It does not need to be a 3D configurator. A well designed form that walks through the real choices does most of the job. RO Drift Boats uses a build your boat path that turns interest into a real configuration. On Catch Boatworks we built the site and the CRM behind it, so every inquiry lands somewhere it gets followed up.

If you sell through dealers, decide early who gets the lead: the dealer, you, or both. The site should route it automatically and tell the buyer what happens next.

Process

How a build works

01 · DISCOVERY

We learn your boats and your buyers.

Which models matter most, who buys them, how they buy (direct, dealer, or both), and what a good lead looks like.

02 · DESIGN

Homepage first, then everything.

You see the homepage at full fidelity before anything else gets built. Lock the direction, and every model page inherits it.

03 · BUILD & LAUNCH

Build, QA, launch.

Production build, redirects from your old URLs, analytics, and a clean launch. Your Care Plan picks up from launch day.

Questions, answered

FAQ

How much does a boat builder website cost?

Starting at $4,000. The price scales with how many models you build, custom features like spec pages or dealer tools, and how much content we create, so small builders just getting started are welcome. Inquiry and follow up automation is $1,500, extra pages are $250 each, and Care Plans start at $149 a month.

How long does it take?

Most builds take about 4 to 6 weeks from kickoff to launch. That's typical, not a hard rule. The biggest variable is how quickly photos, specs and decisions come back from your side.

Can we update models, specs and photos ourselves?

Yes. We set the site up so your team can edit model pages, specs and galleries. If you would rather not, small updates are covered by your Care Plan hours.

Do you build configurators?

We build step by step build your boat forms, like the one on RO Drift Boats, that collect a real configuration you can quote. For most builders that does the job of a configurator without the cost of a 3D one.

We sell through dealers. Can the site handle that?

Yes. We decide with you who gets each lead (you, the dealer, or both) and the site routes it automatically and tells the buyer what happens next.

Should we publish prices?

We recommend at least a "starting at" price or a typical range per model. It qualifies buyers before they call and saves you time on leads that were never going to close.

What happens after launch?

After launch, your Care Plan covers hosting, monitoring, platform updates and small fixes. As you add models, the site grows with you.

Do you only work with fishing boats?

Most of our builder clients build fishing boats: skiffs, bay boats, drift boats and sport fishing boats. If you build something else and sell to people who live on the water, we should still talk.
